GAD-2

GAD-2 Is a very simple two question assessment used to gauge if a patient may be suffering from Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Any Anxiety Disorder or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). These disorders are listed in order of sensitivity(1) to the assessment (from 86% to 59%). It's based on how a user has felt over the last two weeks and asks the following two questions (from the GAD-7 questionnaire, with available answers being a) not at all, b) several days, c) more than half the days and d) nearly every day;

  1. The probability of a positive result

Over the last two weeks, how often have you been bothered by any of the following problems?

  • Feeling nervous, anxious, or on edge?
  • Not being able to stop or control worrying?

A 'score' of 3 or above indicates possible anxiety. If this is the case, the patient is typically asked to then complete the PHQ-9 questionnaire to understand the severity of their depression.

See PHQ-2 and PHQ-9 related to depression.
