You really can't get any better than fresh (or even reheated frozen) home cooked food. It's a simple way to avoid so-called ultra-processed foods (UPFs) and the typical (and often surprising) ingredients they contain such as;
- excessive or unnecessary sugar(s)
- unhealthy fats and oils*
- simple carbohydrates
- additives such as;
- excessive or unnecessary fat(s)
- hormones (in some countries)
Ultra-processed foods also lack (where relevant) beneficial ingredients such as;
- fibre
- complex carbohydrates
- micronutrients
(and highly palatable) (but granted, not always easy for those with little free time or inclination)
These are meals I enjoy. No effort has been made to ensure they are low in fat, high in fibre or nutritionally balanced in any other way; it's just good, tasty and reasonably healthy food. You may not consider puddings and biscuits healthy but, in moderation, they are not unhealthy either (particularly when home made).
All cooking temperatures assume a fan oven is used. Increase the temperature by 20°C if you don't have a fan oven.
